In celebration of Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) Heritage Month, 3rd grade scholars at Cascade View Elementary brought culture and creativity together through a powerful art project honoring the iconic Philippine jeepney.
Led by their teacher, Ms. Grace Saturnino—who proudly identifies as Filipina—scholars explored the history and cultural impact of the jeepney, a vibrant symbol of Filipino resilience and innovation. After World War II, Filipinos transformed abandoned U.S. military jeeps into brightly decorated, bus-like vehicles that became a vital part of public transportation and a cultural icon across the Philippines.
Inspired by this story, Ms. Saturnino’s scholars created colorful jeepney art pieces that reflect both the spirit of the Philippines and the power of cultural pride. Each creation tells a story—rooted in history, heritage, and the beauty of student expression.
We’re proud of our Cascade View scholars for honoring AANHPI Heritage Month through art, learning, and celebration—and we thank Ms. Saturnino for sharing her identity and heritage in such a meaningful and creative way.
